The Assignment

In 2014, Ashcroft Winrow Partnership was consulted to support expansion of a Bahamian Construction Company into Africa.

BHM Company Ltd. prides themselves as leaders in a new future for construction, improvement and maintenance works for airports, roads, marine and mining facilities.

BHM is a dynamic company with a long established proven track record for the successful delivery of major civil engineering and infrastructure projects in growing economies.

Operating in the Bahamas for over 30 years, BHM has moved into a new phase of expansion within the Bahamas, the Caribbean and selected African countries.

Our Approach

The first stage of the plan was a desktop study to understand the African market. The next step was to visit the chosen countries to understand the needs of key stakeholders including Ministers of Works, Transport and Finance, local contractors, UK Embassy and other bodies such as DFID, the local supply chain and available facilities.

This culminated in a board recommendation to focus upon countries where UK export finance was available and there was a crucial need for Infrastructure. Defining 2 types of key customers.

Outcomes

$700M of suitable Road and Airport Infrastructure projects were identified and are in various stages of negotiation in Uganda, Cameroon, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
